Riley O’Keefe – I started warming up about half an hour before I started on my lead routes, by doing dynamic stretches and using bungees. My first route was on a steep overhang but had decent holds to use, and I topped the lead. The second route was a long and technical climb, taking around 6 minutes to complete, good footwork and stamina was a must, however, I still topped the climb. The final route was on the main wall. This starting vertical with technical moves, to larger more powerful moves further on, I got to about third clip from the top. I flashed my first two more technical boulder problems, whilst getting halfway through my last, more powerful problem. I placed third overall, mostly due to my performance on my third and final lead climb! That I performed well on due to my training of balance and movement.
Riley’s Improvement
So why has Riley done so well and why is he improving all of the time. Well, basically Riley shows true dedication to following his coached training plans, is totally motivated and puts in the maximum effort. The coached training plans that he follows are written specifically for Riley by our Head Coach, Paul Jackson following monthly 1:1 coaching sessions. This way we can look at where Riley needs to improve and write that into a plan that meets this needs and without injury.
