What Makes A Great Climber?

Great coaching comes from within and requires the same from others to succeed. When I was asked recently ‘what makes a great climber?’ I replied ‘great coaching, a motivated athlete, and motivated parents!’.

Great Coaching

Being a pro-climber or the one with the most coaching awards doesn’t make you the greatest coach in the world! If you can’t get your message across to the athlete then it all becomes pointless! A great coach is someone who sees things that others don’t; reacts to things that others don’t; teaches the way others don’t; and works the way that others don’t. Great coaching makes great climbers and at Jurassic Climbing Academy we strive to make that accessible, real and achievable to all!

 

 

Motivated Athlete

The athlete needs to be motivated, it’s the only way they are going to succeed. Long hours of training, repeating and repeating until something becomes second nature, early mornings and late evenings 6 days a week, no social life. This all takes a huge amount of will power and motivation to keep on going ever forwards toward the goal. As a coach I need to know that the athletes passion and commitment is as great as mine!

 

 

 

Motivated Parents

If the athlete is a young person then not only do they need to be motivated in their own right, but they need motivated parents. The early mornings and late evenings, the miles of traveling, the costs involved, coaching sessions and solo training sessions maybe twice a day. All this puts a massive strain on parents and their resources. But again I need to know that the parents passion and commitment is as great as mine!
